A couple of weeks ago I shared 9 things I like about winter (my least favorite season). I decided to carry that positive attitude into my closet and share 9 of my favorite cold-weather wardrobe pieces.
1. A puffer vest.
Last time I was at Target they had several of these Merona quilted vests in various patterns. It’s a nice layering piece at a great price point. I’ve been wearing this herringbone style since early fall.
2. A flannel button down.
I was iffy about flannel button downs for a while because I always felt they made me look like a lumberjack. Once I figured out how to style them, however, they became a staple in my cold weather wardrobe. Throw on a statement necklace and a cute vest to make it more feminine. Madewell has a great selection of flannel shirts that are nice and thick.
3. Stylish Accessories.
Another accessory that will keep you warm AND stylish is a great scarf. My favorite is the Cozy Scarf from Gap. I have this in several different colors and prints. I wish you could reach through your screen and feel how soft this scarf is. It’s large enough to be stylish but not so big that I feel like Lenny Kravitz.
4. Black skinny jeans.
Skinny jeans are a must during winter for their ease of tucking into boots, but having a black pair mixes things up a bit. I got a pair of black distressed skinnies from my Stitch Fix box this summer and I wore those at least once a week through the end of fall. When it gets too cold to be comfortable with holes in my pants I turn to this pair from the Loft.
5. A long cardigan.
I love to wear leggings but I always need to make sure my bum is covered. That’s where a long cardi comes in. Long sleeve tee + long cardi + leggings + boots = my winter uniform. I like the Bobeau long cardigans because they're super soft and drapey, and you can stock up in every color. If you're looking for something a little more luxurious, try this cashmere option.
6. Weatherproof boots.
Let’s be honest. 99% of the time I wear my Uggs when it’s cold. But if there’s snow on the ground I throw on my Sperry Top-Sider Duck Boots. If I lived in a northern climate where I could expect snow on the ground all winter I might invest in a pair of these gorgeous Sorels.
7. A faux fur vest.
A fur vest is such a versatile layering piece during the colder months. I like to throw one on over a dress for winter date nights.
8. Warm socks.
Have you ever felt Cuddl Duds socks? They are so plush and fuzzy and warm that I pretty much wear them 24/7 during the winter. Cuddl Duds also makes long underwear and even blankets if you can’t get enough of the softness.
9. Fuzzy slippers.
If I’m at home, I’ve got my slippers on. I love the Victoria’s Secret Cozy Slipper that comes out around the holidays, so I usually stock up when they’re on sale. If you’re looking for something that will last a little longer, Ugg makes several styles of slippers that are guaranteed to keep your feet toasty.
